Clarion "100 Up" Ride
Eight Fenland riders took part in the “100 Up” ride on Sunday 28 August 2022. A lovely sunny day started with a 42 mile ride out to Hickling Basin, north of Melton Mowbray, where we met up with riders from Tuxford Clarion (along with one brave representative from Nottingham!)
The Tuxford Clarion members proved to be entertaining company in the cafés and on the road. We found ourselves comparing notes on group rides and the intricacies of club organisation, among other things. Tuxford Chair, Ian Clarke, took charge of proceedings for the joint ride section of the day. Mr Clarke divided the riders into B and C groups (clearly thinking nobody deserved the A rating). Ian, Rich and Phil joined the B group for a very fast (and hilly) 30 mile ride to the second café stop near Belton House. The C group followed on at a more civilised pace and arrived 19 minutes later. Both of the day’s cafés, the Old Wharf tea rooms in Hickling and the Syston Park Farm shop, were excellent.
After that there was time for more coffee and chat before the clubs went their separate ways for the 35 mile ride home.
Fenland riders taking part were: Nick Bowlzer, Rich B, Chris Farrow, Phil Gee, David Hallam, Alistair Northend, Ian Richardson and Julian Tatam (special congratulations to Alistair who clocked up his first 100 mile ride on the day!) A big thank you to Malc Jacklin for liaising with Tuxford and sorting the route, and to Julian for leading on the day. (Details of the route can be seen on our respective Strava feeds - have a look at the Fenland Clarion Strava page)
