2019 Bluebell series draws to a close
The final round of the 2019 Bluebell series was held on Wednesday evening before the riders and families made their way to the White Hart, Ufford for the presentation.
The competition has been tooing and frooing all through the summer months with a number of riders all in with a chance of winning one of the most famous old prizes in local cycling.
Four riders took it to the final week, something which says a lot for the prestiege of the series and the respect in which it is held.
The final top three all recorded times that were either their fastest or close to the their fastest of the entire season despite the cold and windy weather.
However Paul Asplin held on to the overall lead he took with two weeks of the series to go, beating James Warrener into second and Phil Merritt into third place.
The final standings are here.
The final podium are pictured below.
It has taken Paul the best part of three decades to get the shield on his mantlepiece, massive congratulations to him and the other riders who were in the money.
The 2020 series will have to be quite some event to live up to this one.
Junior cross results from 9th August
It was another successful race night at the track, depsite some seriously dodgy weather.
Well done to all to the riders who competed and congratulations to the winners in each category.

Bluebell 10 results and standings ahead of last week of series
It was another windy evening for the latest and penultimate round of the clubs Bluebell 10 series.
After spending July on the Bainton to Marholm course it was back to the traditional looped course for this and the following, final week.
Despite the conditions there were course personal bests for Phil Merritt and Simon Pitchford. Riders who seemed oblivious to the gathering stormy winds that lashed the course!
Club legend, Paul Asplin continues to lead the series with one round to go.You can view the results below and the overall standings here.
Crowland Grass track racing

National Clarion update from Ian Clarke
Just to keep you posted on Clarion news during the hot and stormy August days, here are a few items that may interest you.
Cancelled events:
The National Clarion 50 mile champs was cancelled due to traffic lights on the course, and sadly it is too late to find an alternative event to run it on. Similarly, on the 28th of July, Duncan McLaren had to cancel the 25 mile champs in Cheshire due to heavily flooded roads...we shall however be looking to reschedule this event and will keep you informed.
Clarion 3-up TT Champs:
Right up until the night before we nearly had to change the course or cancel, but road works were completed on time, and the event was a huge success and members of Nottingham and Tuxford Clarion did a fabulous job on the day.
Fastest Clarion team was Nottingham Clarion C.C. of Anthony Jackson, Michael Cooke & Stewart Bates in a time of 54mins & 27 seconds
Fastest Womens team was Fenland Clarion C.C. of Mel Evans, Lindsay Clarke & Tonya Smith in a time of 1hr 06mins & 29 seconds
Full results will appear in the coming edition of Boots & Spurs.
Clarion Circuit Race Champs – Wakefield – Sat’ 17th of August
Races for all categories including a full Youth programme. Entries close on the 11th of August

Easter Meet plans for 2020
We now have an organising team put together, and are working on finding a suitable venue for 2020. The event location details will be hopefully announced in the forthcoming Boots & Spurs.
(note the National Clarion Easter Meet is not at Ashbourne in 2020).
If you would like to help the organisers and wish to offer your support in anyway, please get in touch.
Fingers crossed for some more good cycling weather this Summer and Autumn, enjoy the ride.
Yours in fellowship

Friday 2nd August
Unfortunately we are going to have to cancel the planned coached session on Friday 2nd August.
I suggest it would be great opportunity to plan a family ride. Hopefully you, the parents, can arrange this collectively. Emma should be able to attend as well. However it will mean that the youngsters will need to be supervised, although you could perhaps arrange to share parents.
Please use the Facebook page to discuss, and if confirmed i'm very happy to send out a confirmation e-mail to ensure everyone gets to know.
We will be back at the Athletic Track on Friday 9th August for our next racenight, hopefully see lots of you there.
