Friday 29th March
Close finish to Place2Place
There were only three seconds between Steve Maile and Simon Pitchford at the top of the leaderboard at the end of the Place2Place yesterday.
The morning started with oodles of sunshine at the top of Folksworth hill. Despite the brightness there was still a seasonal chill in the air and stiff wind which would hamper the riders all the way down into the Nene Valley at Oundle.
The return might have been all up hill past the Olive Grove and out of Polebrook but there was definitely more pace about all competitors as they went through the finish line for the first time and out on to the local lap to Morborne. The trek across Folksworth and out to the transmitter were the biggest headwind of the race and it was there that a number of competitors lost time over their rivals.
Once back up to Washingley crossroads it was all out for the last 3km before topping the climb for a second and final time.
Despite the windy conditions there were a good number of riders under the hour for the 34km (or 21 miles), which is fantastic when you consider there is nearly 300 metres of elevation on the route.
On behalf of all the riders, I would like to thank the marshalls who gave up their Sunday morning to ensure there was a race.

8th March Junior Racing
This Friday 8th March we will be holding another of our racenights, this time its with a Cyclocross format, so we will be on the grass and every rider will get at least two races. These will still suit ALL of our youth riders, but with the added attraction of some riders from other clubs joining us for a few races, making it ideal entry level racing, and suitable for getting started with competitive events. Each event will be in age groups, so even our youngest will be able to take part, and the oldest will riders will be under 16 age group (racing seperately to the younger ones)
Please note that if any of you would like to borrow a club bike, please help us by being there by 6.15
Entry will be £4 on the day from 6.00pm with races to start at 6.30 and finish around 8:00 - 8:15 with a couple of spot prizes and the series prizes will be awarded at the final event on 10th May. Hopefully our youngsters will all want to try these events, they seem to have a competitve streak even when not racing, so it should make a nice change to our usual format.
We could do with a few helpers on the night, so if you are able to help please let me know, preferably in advance.
- Riders, the more the merrier for good racing. All youth riders welcome.
- Cakes, always very welcome
- Refreshments - ideally 2 - 3 to help out with them
- Signing on - two people required
- Timekeepers - three people required
- Demo rider to lead the riders round the course
- Helpers for setting up, could do with a couple of helpers who could ideally get there early
The details are on the British Cycling website, but as its entry on the night things are not too different to normal.
https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/events/details/193443/Fenland-Clarion-Go-Ride-Cross-Races
This will be at our usual venue The Embankment Athletic Track, Bishops Road, PE1 5BW.
There will be two more events in the series on Fridays 12th April & 10th May.
As always any questions please ask.
