Wattbikes Available

Just to make you aware that we have Wattbikes in the club and they can be made available for training on a Friday evening when we are at the athletic track. To ensure availability i'll need to know in advance who wants to use them. The cost for adults or youths of secondary school age is the regular £4 or £3 for members, however if an adult is also paying for a youth to attend the session they will only be charged £1 to minimise the burden on the family budget. Wattbike racenights will be charged separately as required to cover our costs.

This Friday 1st March

This Friday we will be at the Athletic Track on Bishops Road from 6:30 - 7:30. For those who would like to ride the rollers this will be an ideal opportunity for youths and any adults who might be interested.

For the remainder we will be using the track once again this week, so if you have a choice then smooth road tyres would be great.

Weekend Youth Rides

Hi to all

I think there is sufficient interest in arranging some regular weekend rides for the youngsters and I suggest we could start by aiming to do a ride on Saturdays afternoons, although they could be at other times as well.

I don't think every week is practical, so perhaps 1 or 2 rides a month might work well. If any parents are prepared to lead a few rides please let me know and I'm happy to co-ordinate some dates.
I think a mixture of cycleways, off road rides and on quieter roads would all work. Recently we had the Crowland ride to the Fenland Airfield and it was well supported and enjoyed by all on quiet roads. Other suitable locations could be routes close to you, or how about Fineshade, Peterborough Green Wheel, Grafham Water, Rutland Water to name a few to get you started. As not all the youngsters have parents who cycle perhaps one or two parents might supervise the odd extra youngsters occasionally to open these rides up to all.
Let me know if interested in leading the occasional ride.

Tonight 15th February

This Friday we will be back on the track, so the road bikes can come out again if you have one.
The intended rollers session will go back to the 1st March, so keep practicing.
I've also added a range of upcoming races onto the website, http://www.fenlandclarion.co.uk/site/index.php/youth/youth-latest-news
In particular there are quite a few circuit races with the popular Milton Keynes series during March offering events across the agegroups, please note gear restrictions and races licences will be required, if unsure please ask. If you plan to go to one of these events why not add to our Facebook page and it might encourage a few more to join in.

Ride on 16th for Youth and Parents

Just to confirm that I will be leading a ride on Saturday morning for youth riders, parents and anyone else who'd like to come along.

This will start from outside the Athletic Track on Bishops Road at 09:30 and be around 17 miles of mainly off road with some road sections. Please come prepared with a spare tube and be comfortable with riding for that distance. If in doubt please ask.

Weekend Wattbike action from 02nd Feb

There was much pain and suffering for the Clarion Wattbike session on Saturday morning. With freezing temperatures outside the club used the new Collyweston Heritage Centre near the top of the iconic climb.

There were riders from Yaxley Rides who joined in the action and all agreed there would be more sessions going forward.

Race night this coming Friday 8th February

This Friday 8th February we will be holding another of our racenights, this time with a cyclocross format, so we will be on the grass and every rider will get three races. These will still suit ALL of our youth riders, but with the added attraction of some riders from other clubs joining us for a few races, making it ideal entry level racing, and suitable for getting started with competitive events. Each event will be in age groups, so even our youngest will be able to take part, and the oldest will riders will be under 16 age group (racing seperately to the younger ones)
Entry will be £4 on the day from 6.00pm with races to start at 6.30 and finish around 8.00. Hopefully our youngsters will all want to try these events, they seem to have a competitve streak even when not racing, so it should make a nice change to our usual format.
We could do with a few helpers on the night, so if you are able to help please let me know, preferably in advance.
  • Riders, the more the merrier for good racing. All youth riders welcome.
  • Cakes, if you can bring one along please do, and ideally let me know beforehand
  • Refreshments - two to help out with them
  • Signing on - two people required
  • Timekeepers - three people required
  • Demo rider to show the riders round the course
  • Helpers for setting up, could do with a couple of helpers who could ideally get there early
The details are on the British Cycling website, but as its entry on the night things are not too different to normal.
This will be at our usual venue The Embankment Athletic Track, Bishops Road, PE1 5BW.

This will be part of a four event series with three other evenings of fun on 8th March, 12th April & 10th May when we will award the prizes.

Frosty Friday to start February

Just to remind you that we will be at the Embankment Athletic Track as usual this Friday ready to ride at 6:30 until 7:30 and we will be on the grass this week.

Please ensure the youngsters are all suitably dressed for the cold weather, if we work them hard enough to get too warm they can take a layer off if needed, better that than getting very cold. Remember there's always hot drinks available inside.

Please park in the Regional Pool car park for free from 6:00 and if you'd like to borrow a bike please aim to be there by 6:15.
