Velodrome opportunity

Hi to all
There is currently a spare slot at the Derby Velodrome on the afternoon on Monday 8th April which I can book for us as a club if there is sufficient interest. This would be for youths and seniors, although I can't confirm costs until I can gauge numbers but would hope to be able to arrange on similar terms to last time which was £25 each including hire bike and shoes. The minimum age is 9 years.

So if you are interested please let me know by Sunday evening as I will let them know on Monday morning.

Message from Clarion member Steve Hope.

Hello Fenland Clarion Members.

Just to let you know of a bike race with a difference:

Now in it's fifth year, the Pactrac Peterborough Duathlon takes place
on Sunday 31st March. The event is based in Castor over the distances
of:
Run 4-miles, Bike 18-miles, Run 2.5 miles.

This is an ideal opportunity to take part in a local multi-discipline
race, in a safe, friendly environment, alongside other first time multi-
sport athletes.
The distances are challenging, with the event catering for all
abilities. Further details and on-line entry can be found at http://pactrac.co.uk/events/4217/

If you have any questions regarding the event, please email me on

Go on. You know you want to.

Thank you in advance and good luck with your own events this year.

Steve Hope.

Youth and Senior racing this Saturday

This Saturday we are hosting the final round of the Muddy Monsters North Cambs series of youth races, which will be followed by a short entry level cyclocross race for adults.

The Muddy Monsters event will be open to all youth riders and a few helpers will be needed from 08:00 to set up and sign on will be from 09:15 for the racing to start at 10:00 and there will be prizes for the series and all be finished by 12:00 at the latest. Entry is £4 per rider for a minimum of two races.

At 12:00 there will be a 20 minute seniors race for the Fenland Clarion cyclocross championships. This would be ideal for parents who fancy trying a cyclocross event suitable for novices.
So whether you want to ride, spectate, help out or bring along a cake for the refreshments it would be great to see you there.

The more the merrier.

Please note if using the Regional Pool car park that charges apply on Saturdays.

Friday 11th January

This Friday there will be an extended family ride of 13 miles. Please note with the extra distance and cooler weather riders should be capable of riding for around 90 minutes with minimal stops.

Also suitable warm & visible clothing should be worn with lights and a spare tube required. We will leave from outside the Embankment Athletic Track at 18:30 and expect to get back around 20:00 parents are very welcome to join the ride. The route will be Stanground, Farcet, Crown Lakes, Hampton, Orton Mere and back. The surfaces are generally quite good with a few short stretches that could include a few muddy areas.

Also to let you know that we are planning to have the more regular family ride of around 6 miles on Friday 25th January at 6:30 which will suit a wider range of youngsters and their families, as long as the weather is reasonable. When the ride is finished at around 7:30 there is the option of watching & supporting riders in the Wattbike racing with some of the parents and older youth riders. Note, we could still do with another parent or two for this event.

Any questions please just ask.

First committee session of 2019 held last night

The Clubs committee met for the first time in 2019 last night and there was plenty to review and discuss.

The group talked about what had worked well in 2018 and some innovative new ideas to engage the membership this coming season. The provisional calendar is close to being ratified by the governing bodies and a rota for marshalling events is being worked on.

There were some great suggestions about maximising the kits stocks and format for social events, all of which will be developed over the coming months.

The final thing agreed was the date for the clubs AGM which is Monday 4th February.

If you have something you wish to raise at that meeting, its important you get that information to a committee member as soon as possible.

Thanks.

Frostbite 10TT

It's nearly time for the Frostbite 10m TT on 1st January 2019 at 11am and you know what that means ..... we need marshalls:
1 timekeeper
1 pusher offer
1 timekeepers asst
4 road marshalls
Who's in?
And of course no TT would be complete without riders ... who's blowing the New Years Day cobwebs off with a blast around the Blue bell 10?
Meeting up at the usual point for signing on and riding.
Happy Christmas
Em

Friday race night 14.12.2018

This Friday 14th December we will be holding another of our racenights, this time its with a Cyclocross format, so we will be on the grass and every rider will get at least two races. These will still suit ALL of our youth riders, but with the added attraction of some riders from other clubs joining us for a few races, making it ideal entry level racing, and suitable for getting started with competitive events. Each event will be in age groups, so even our youngest will be able to take part, and the oldest will riders will be under 16 age group (racing seperately to the younger ones)
Please note that if any of you would like to borrow a club bike, please help us by being there by 6.15
Entry will be £4 on the day from 6.00pm with races to start at 6.30 and finish around 8.00, when we will give out a few prizes. Hopefully our youngsters will all want to try these events, they seem to have a competitve streak even when not racing, so it should make a nice change to our usual format.
We could do with a few helpers on the night, so if you are able to help please let me know, preferably in advance.
  • Riders, the more the merrier for good racing. All youth riders welcome.
  • Cakes, a rare occasion this week as we already have enough
  • Refreshments - ideally 2 - 3 to help out with them
  • Signing on - two people required
  • Timekeepers - three people required
  • Demo rider to lead the riders round the course
  • Helpers for setting up, could do with a couple of helpers who could ideally get there early
The details are on the British Cycling website, but as its entry on the night things are not too different to normal.
This will be at our usual venue The Embankment Athletic Track, Bishops Road, PE1 5BW.
