Notice of AGM and film evening

Message from Steve Clarke

It’s that time of year again… The racing season is upon us and it won’t be long before we change the clocks and can go riding

on balmy summer evenings. But before that we have the:

2018 Annual General Meeting & Cycling Filmshow

To be held on Monday 26th February (7.30-8.30pm approx)

at Peterbortough & District Bowls Club

19 Burton Street, Peterborough PE1 5HA

There will be a licenced bar and some refreshments. The plan is to rattle through the meeting and show a cycling film:

Mark Cavendish Born to Race.
A revealing documentary offering a unique insight into the 2011 Road World Champion, Tour de France Green Jersey winner and Sports Personality of the Year. Covering both his public and private lives throughout this pivotal season, it also documents his early years, before building up to and looking back at the biggest event in world sport, the 2012 London Olympics. Includes unique access to his training, media days and rest and relaxation at home.

This unique documentary includes numerous Interviews with leading cycling figures including; British Cycling Head Coach Dave Brailsford, Rod Ellingworth, Bradley Wiggins, Peta Todd and many more.

AGM

I know many find the meeting somewhat boring, but is important for the smooth running of the club. Whilst we have a few hardworking

officers and committee members, we would welcome some new blood to help with the organisation of the club. It would be great if we could find someone to take on the role of Social Secretary, to co-ordinate and organise a few social events. Adam Robinson is standing down as Clothing Secretary, so we need someone to look after that job and if anyone out there has good web skills, we could do with a replacement for James Warrener, the club’s Webmaster. Even a couple of people to stand as Committee Members, would be useful.
We have five or six meetings a year, usually on a Monday night in the Bluebell in Maxey. Please let me know if you would be interested in helping with the club organisation.

Please find attached the Meeting Notice and provisional agenda.

Kind  regards

Steve

Watt Bikes

Hi to all

Now we have the Wattbikes at the club and as its the time of year when the evenings are generally dark and cold many of you maybe riding indoors.

To get the best benefit from having the Wattbikes it would be great to know what members preference is for using them. Currently we have racenights on Fridays at the Athletic Track giving riders 3 - 4 short races from 250m to one mile, usually including a team event as well, and these will continue, although we may also use them in different ways if the interest is there.

  • Are you interested in the existing format of racenights
  • Would it make a difference if we changed the time and/or venue (If you know of a suitable venue we could book fairly cheaply please let me know)
  • Would you be interested in inter club racenights
  • Racenights without the team events
  • Pedalling technique sessions perhaps including high cadence competitions
  • 5 mile time trials
  • 10 mile time trials
  • Would you be interested in trying the Wattbikes for yourself with an open session to do as you please
  • Winter handicap league starting 2018/19

Do you have any other ideas you'd like to see tried

This weekends youth cycling

Hi to all
As the weather prevented our Friday session from taking place last week we are going to hold an extra session this Friday 9th March. It's at the Embankment Athletic Track on Bishops Road as normal 6:30 - 7:30.
Also on Saturday morning there is the sixth round of the Muddy Monsters series, and its local. This time it's at Thorpe Hall PE3 6LW with signing on from 09:30 for racing to start at 10:00, so it would be great to get a good turnout at such a local event.

Friday night session

Just to remind you all that we have our regular youth coached session this Friday from 6.30 - 7.30 at the Athletics Track on Bishops Road and we will be on the grass practicing those Cyclocross skills this week.
Immediately after this we will have a parents meeting to give you all a chance to share your opinions on our activities and discuss possible events for the forthcoming year.
Hopefully see lots of you there.

2018 Frostbite 10 mile TT Results

2018Frostbite

Fancy a New Year challenge?

We are looking to host our annual Frostbite 10 once the forecasted snow clears and the mercury rises.

Usual club 10 rules apply with the regular course completed.

We are looking to gauge interest so if you would like to ride or volunteer to help put the event on, please get in touch.

UPDATE

Hi to all

As I'm sure most of you are aware the club traditionally holds a 10 mile time trial on new years day.
For this tradition to continue we will need a full contingent of marshals and hopefully plenty of riders to make it practical to promote a safe and enjoyable event.
Emma (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) is organising the event and needs to know who is willing to help marshal the course or assist with signing on, by Saturday lunchtime if possible.
  • Sign on from 10.15 NOTE on the health outside of Helpston (52.617522, -0.343811).
  • First rider off at 11.01 from the usual start on Heath Road
  • Course 10 mile "Bluebell" circuit
  • Minimum age 12 years on the day
  • New for 2018 marshals get attendance points towards the annual trophy
So if you can help please let Emma know at the earliest opportunity to enable the event to continue with everything in place.

Have a happy new year and hope to see lots of you there on Monday.

Weekend Youth Events

Hi to all

We start the weekend on Friday evening with a family ride from outside the Athletics Track at 18:30 for an approx. 7 mile loop through Stanground and along the river as far as Millennium bridge. You'll need lights and ideally bright clothing, the route is quite possible on road tyres, but its a bit rough in places so you might prefer knobbly tyres if you have the choice. Should be finished around 19:30 with parents very welcome.

On Saturday morning there is the fourth round of the Muddy Monsters series of races, and as this one is from Thorpe Hall in Peterborough there will hopefully be a good turnout. Be there to register by around 09:30 for a 10:00 start, and it will be all finished by 12:00.

Enjoy your cycling

Friday evening youth session

Hi to all

This week will be our final youth session of 2017, and this will be our Xmas party night. We will be at the Embankment Athletic Track with a 6.30 start as normal and we'll be cycling for around an hour. However that's where the similarities end, as this week parents are encouraged to join in this fun session. All events will be open to parents of all abilities and none of them will require a high level of fitness, just a few cycling based games, so you'll need your cycle and a helmet although we may be able to lend you one if required.

We will have a few awards to give out including best dressed youth bike, best dressed adult bike, youth attendance award and a few spot prizes.
Many of you have already offered to bring food along for the social time with music and food from 7.30 - 8.30 and if you haven't offered already we could do with some paper plates, plastic cups and feel free to bring sweet or savoury items along.

It would be great to finish the years sessions with a big turnout, so hopefully see you all there.

Club Records now on website

It’s taken a while (they’ve not been on the site for a long while), but you can find them here (link).
Take a look and see what great times are the fastest our members have done and who holds the various Club records.
2017 has been another fast year and riders across the board have been seen to produce some impressive times, not least of all Club Champion Paul Lunn.

paul lunn
Paul has been sizzling form all year, winning almost all of the club events and set new club records for the Bluebell Circuit (20.45) and also the 100 mile with 3.40.11, beating the old record by almost a quarter of an hour.

Meanwhile Paul Lilley, Steve Kaye and Richard Moys eclipsed the nine year old Men’s 25 mile team record by 7.14 on the same day in September.

Not to be outdone Lindsay Clarke broke the Women’s 10 mile record twice in 2017, beating her own 23 year old record with 22.02 and then 21.59 (same day in September, it must have been a fast day!) on the super quick V718 course in Yorkshire.

Take a look at the records and see if you might be able to break one (or more). If you break a record, to claim, just email the racing secretary This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.  with the official result sheet and we’ll check it out and if ratified you’ll get a certificate at the annual prize presentation and your name in the record books.
