Wattbikes TeamTime Trial

Saturday 2nd February at Collyweston Heritage Centre PE9 3PQ with a 10:00 start.

A very different format with the club Wattbikes for this event, and a new venue. The format is an inter club event in teams of 5. Each rider will complete 10 miles giving each team of 5 a combined 50 miles. The first rider from each team will ride their 10 miles starting at 10:00 and then after a couple of minutes break to adjust the bikes for the next rider, the second 10 miles will be completed with all teams starting each 10 miles simultaneously, and so on through the team. Note if your team is a rider short then one rider may ride twice or you could borrow a rider from another team, or if you have extra riders why not let them fill in for another team so everyone gets a ride?
This link shows a recent event to give you an idea of how it works, https://www.facebook.com/kate.jacklin.5/posts/10214266001464132

Buffet proves a great success

Fenland Clarion members gathered at the John Clare Cottage, Helpston last night at the conclusion of their final club 10 of the season.

In tosting the success of the winning riders with a specially brewed "Clare Ale" all enjoyed a hearty buffet before taking to the scenic courtyard garden to enjoy a lovely evening with a chat.

Buffet

The buffet is one of a number of social events in the calender with the camping at Mildenhall coming up this weekend and the club dinner in November.

Thanks to all for coming along and for making it a lovely evening.

Cyclo Cross

These events are possible for anyone with a bike that can cope with a bit of off road riding. Most events have a mixture of cross bikes and mountain bikes, and as its run over a circuit no one can get left behind (well apart from on the first lap). The races are normally from 40 minutes to one hour (less for the younger riders). To compliment these events there will also be a few more off road rides coming up.

So if you fancy a change, why not give one of these a try. Many are local events, and there is one most weekends up to Christmas, and a few into the new year.

Please note the entry details for each event, and that if you want to score in a league series you should note the specific requirements of that league. As we are an Eastern region club, but also cose to the boundary with Central and the Lincolnshire league, you may choose to pick individual events that suit you, or compete in one league throughout the season. If you are unsure please ask.

Thanks to Emma we have a spreadsheet that shows most of the local league events, complete with travelling distances from the Athletic Track and even an approximate travelling time. This season it looks like we are going to get a few more riders taking part, both in the youth age groups, and the seniors, where there are some novice events if you're really unsure. As there are several fixture clashes why not let us know which events you'll be taking part in, that way we can add it to the spreadsheet and hopefully encourage other riders to go to the same event, making it more social as well. E-mail This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

As well as these league events we will be holding our own YOUTH ONLY cross races on 30th September, 28th October, 25th November & on 11th November there will be another GIRLS ONLY RACENIGHT, so please ride, help out, bring a friend or just help us to spread the word about these nights.

Please have a look through the spreadsheet for an excellent selection of local(ish) events.

So whether you fancy being the next cross expert like Sven Nys (left) or you think you're more of a crowd pleaser, why not give it a go?

Junior racing 8th November

This Friday 8th November we will be holding another of our racenights, this time its with a Cyclocross format, so we will be on the grass and every rider will get at least two races. These will still suit ALL of our youth riders, but with the added attraction of some riders from other clubs joining us for a few races, making it ideal entry level racing, and suitable for getting started with competitive events. Each event will be in age groups, so even our youngest will be able to take part, and the oldest will riders will be under 16 age group (racing seperately to the younger ones)

Please note that if any of you would like to borrow a club bike, please help us by being there by 6.15

Entry will be £4 on the day from 6.00pm with races to start at 6.30 and finish around 8:00 - 8:15 with the series prizes awarded at the end and all done by 8:30. Hopefully our youngsters will all want to try these events, they seem to have a competitve streak even when not racing, so it should make a nice change to our usual format.

We could do with a few helpers on the night, so if you are able to help please let me know, preferably in advance. In particular we need someone to take entries, ideally would could be there for 5:45/6:00
Riders, the more the merrier for good racing. All youth riders welcome.
Cakes, always very welcome
Refreshments - ideally 2 - 3 to help out with them
Signing on - two people required
Timekeepers - three people required
Demo rider to lead the riders round the course
Helpers for setting up, could do with a couple of helpers who could ideally get there early
The details are on the British Cycling website, but as its entry on the night things are not too different to normal.
https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/events/details/208368/Fenland-Clarion-Go-Ride-Cross-Races

This will be at our usual venue The Embankment Athletic Track, Bishops Road, PE1 5BW.

Friday 2nd November

This Friday we will be at the Embankment Athletic Track from 6:30 - 7:30 for our youth coached session.
This week we will be having another roller session, so if you have rollers please bring them along, or you can borrow a club set, although it might be worth letting me know to ensure we have enough for everyone.
For those who would prefer to be outdoors on their bikes we will be on the grass this week.
Also for the remaining sessions of this year we will make the clubs Wattbikes available for any of the adults who would like to try them, although these will need to be reserved in advance, so please let me know if interested.
